Journal is Back!

The Wirral Journal was originally launched by Kenneth Burnley in 1982. This fine quarterly local interest magazine was published for fourteen years by Ken from his home in Irby. Sadly, in 1995, due to pressures of other work and the constraints of working from home, Ken decided that he could no longer continue publication and it passed into the hands of another publisher. Unfortunately, after it was taken over it went through a somewhat 'chequered' period before apparently closing in the Spring of 1999.

In the meantime, Kenneth Burnley had joined our team at Wirral Champion as a free-lance contributor, and has been writing for the magazine ever since. Inevitably, we got to talking about the apparent 'demise' of his original Wirral Journal and discussed launching a new Journal - the Wirral Champion Journal. Ken, very kindly, agreed to co-edit this new Journal with me so bringing his long experience and considerable expertise to a project close to his heart and backed by the reputation of Wirral Champion Magazine.

The new Wirral Champion Journal is up to 64 pages A5 format with full colour cover, bursting with features, articles, letters and memories about the Wirral peninsula, and, after just two short years, has already recovered the fine reputation for high quality of production, content, interest and fine writing that Ken's original had so worthily gained.

The year 2007 saw the 'Twenty Fifth Anniversary' of the launch of the original Journal, a magazine which has provided much pleasure to so many people who love Wirral, its people, its places and its history.
